PIO Compensation Proposal, January 25, 2013
On Tuesday, January 22, PIO stewards, officers staff and members met on campus to discuss the issue of compensation for part-time instructors. We reviewed unit data, pay data for part-time instructors at other nearby schools, and pay data for other teachers at WMU. We came up with a proposal that was accepted unanimously by the members present.
This morning, January 25, our negotiating team offered our compensation proposal to WMU. It looks like this:
Year 2013-2014 2014-2015 2015-2016 2016-2017 2017-2018
Base Pay/Credit $800 $850 $900 $950 $1,000
Wellness/Credit $30 $40 $50 $60 $70
Continuing Increase/Credit $25 $25 $25 $25 $25
In addition, we proposed an expansion of the Tuition Discount Program so that part-time instructors can use their discount either 1) in the semester or session when they earn it, or 2) in the next immediate semester. This way, if you earn 4 free credits for teaching in fall semester, but you are too busy to take any classes in fall semester, you can use your tuition discount in spring semester.
